Loosen the Knots

Here's the final print. I'm much happier with this version than with the first one. It says what I wanted to say much better. Of course I see things I wish I'd done differently, but heck, I'm a beginner. I'm learning so much as I go along. Today is a beautiful sunny New England day so I'm going to go for a walk with the dog!

Hope you haven't printed all the sheets with the red birds? You may want to just 'try' printing the birds in a pale bokashi in blue or green, tails darker fading to nothing in the heads?

Your printing is really coming along so nicely!

Thanks, Mike and all who have commented. It's probably true that this would look pretty cool with the birds "ghosted" or empty or in blues/greens as folks have suggested. This image came from a dream I had, though, and in the dram the birds were red, so it never even occurred to me to make them any other color - they were just red.

I am a great believer in dog walking. Every day I walk the dogs, Bert and Ernie, and I am usually pondering a print as we walk. Deciding which path to follow can be difficult.

With your birds, I also thought of them as backlit by the glowing knot, and probably rendered in a more muted tone. But, the redness made me think of blood beating and the time passing by, adding a darker dimension. So, it has a Jungian impact the way it is.

If I had your blocks and print stack, I guess I would be tempted to do one more reduction cut on the birds. Picking out some lines and mass in a darker tone of red-brown.

Thanks so very much for posting the progression of your prints. It is interesting and great fun to watch. In a way, one feels a part of the creative process this way.
