Dorothy Bradford Goes to Japan

I was happy to learn a couple of days ago that one of my prints, Dorothy Bradford Comes to America, will be included in the exhibition "Mokuhanga: Dialogue and Dialect" which will be part of the 1st International Moku Hanga Conference in Kyoto in June. I'll be attending the conference along with Dorothy, and I can hardly wait to be in Japan again. I'm also very excited to meet many moku hanga artists who I've only known virtually for so many years.

The show will be up June 8 -12, 2011 at Kyoto International Community House, 2F.

Listings of other woodblock shows in Kyoto during the conference are available here on the conference web site.

That's great news Annie! Please say hi to Richard Steiner for me. The venue is just around the corner from where I lived :)

Congratulations! You are truly an inspiration to me. This print is my favorite of yours, and I dream of going to Japan for reasons connected to my own printmaking some day. Thank you for sharing so much of your art and accomplishments on this blog.

Congratulations :)
I just found this blog in search of information of Japanese woodblock prints ^^ I hope to attempt my own this semester at university. I have a question; is there a particular wood that you would recommend using?

Thank you

Elysia

Thanks everyone! Martha, I enjoyed looking at your blog. I hope you get a chance to go to Japan some day -- it's a wonder-filled trip.
Elysia, any kind of wood can be used. I mostly use Japanese shina, which I order from McClain's Printmaking Supply, but you can use birch or pine for a similar feel. Just make sure you buy high grade cabinetmaker's wood to avoid knots and splits.
