Goodbye Studio Space
This is the front of the 100-year-old Victorian where we hope to move in next month. The deal on the condo in the old school fell apart, so we spent the past week looking for alternatives and we discovered this location. The house has been divided into 5 condominium units and we've put an offer on the third floor unit. It doesn't have a 400-square-foot studio space like the old school, but it has 7 rooms and nearly as much overall square footage as the house we just sold. It's a beautiful space in a great neighborhood, totally renovated, new heating, new appliances, new electrical system. I think we're going to love it.
So it's back to doing my moku hanga work in a bedroom. Lucky for me, moku hanga can easily be done in a bedroom!

Sorry it fell through as much as I envied the space you were going to have (and boy did I!) I wanted you to have it.
But hey at least you won't be sharing your bedroom studio space with a screaming toddler like I will be at some point! :P
Hmmm. This place looks so inviting and friendly, moreso than the school even if it doesn't have the square footage for the studio space. You're pretty innovative, so if it's teaching you're destined to do, you'll find a way and perhaps you'll be glad it won't be in your home. I say this as the daughter of a woman who taught piano at home for several hours each day, six days a week throughout my childhood. I'm so glad you've found a new place to live, and I hope very much you'll be happy there with your new neighbors. When does it look like you'll be able to move in?
What a beautifully elegant place, Annie. I would find this place very comforting and inspiring.
It's beautiful! And your room will be a studio, even if it USED to be a bedroom.
Looks lovely!
Don't think of it as moku hanga in a bedroom; its a studio where guests might occasionally sleep.
Thank you all for the comments. Thanks especially for helping me remember that a studio is a room where you make art, not a room that looks a certain way.
Pardon me for asking, but since you'd have seven rooms, why cant one of those rooms be used exclusively as a studio?
Hi Rachel,
One of the 7 rooms will *definitely* be used as a studio. What I'm lamenting is that the property we were planning to buy had a 400-square-foot room that was going to be my studio. That room had a concrete floor, was on the ground level of the building, and had a separate entrance, so it could have easily accommodated a press and I could have taught classes there.
I'm very sorry that your deal fell through. I hope it wasn't the studio that prompted the move in the first place?
YES IT S NICA PLACE FOR ART WOODS,THINK IT CAN BE SMOOTH AND WELL FRIENDLY FOR NICE AND QUIT WOODEN SHINAS TOO,GOOD LUCK!

Oh I see! Man, I'm sorry to hear that. That's a dream space.
On the bright side, you'll at least have a space for a studio in the new place.
For a minute there I thought you 2 were buying the whole place! My jaw nearly hit the ground as it is so BIG. But the 3rd floor sounds amazing. And renovated too!
