Studio blog of Annie Bissett, an artist working with traditional Japanese woodblock printing (moku hanga)

Another Week, Another 3 Colors
This is another shot of my current print in progress. There are 8 layers of color shown here, printed with a mostly uncarved block of plywood (just the little "stars" are carved). Now I'm carving more on the same block to create a design that will be overprinted. This is the second print in my series about money. The series is tentatively titled "Loaded."
I'm going to be taking a silkscreen workshop at Zea Mays Printmaking for the next 3 days so I won't be working on this print, but I'm excited to try another printmaking method. I can imagine silkscreen and woodblock being super compatible.

Amazing layering, Annie. I admire your skill at such subtle coloring.
Love the way those stars are twinkling through all those soft layers of colour.
This is beautiful! So subtle. I'll keep an eye on this one.
It's very exciting to watch your develop, Annie. Enjoy your workshop - I am also exploring combining silkscreen with my katazome work in a piece in progress. I agree, this would be a great combination to try with your Japanese woodblock printing.
How is your "rolling out the paper" registration working with the big sheets of paper?
Do you feel you have enough control for tight registration?
I like the stars and look forward to more layers.
Thanks everyone.
Andrew, the rolling method is working OK. It's good to have enough of a border that there's room to maneuver the paper before it hits any ink, though -- say an inch and a half minimum.
