Mecca (Mohammed) - Final

MeccaFinal

Mecca (Mohammed)
Image size: 11" x 28.5" (28 x 72 cm)
2 shina plywood blocks
9 hand-rubbed impressions
Paper: 13" x 33" Rives Heavyweight
Edition: 24

Here's the final Mecca print. I had a tough time printing the border. I've gotten very heavy-handed with the baren since I started working on large prints, but the border needed a light touch to print properly. It took me a number of prints before I got the feel for this block. Still, I managed to get an edition of 24.

Thanks for taking this journey with me. The next print in this series will be Lumbini where Buddha was born, but I may take a break from these large prints and work on another piece first. I'll let you know.

Beautiful. The border gives the print a "looking in through a window" effect which works very well with the theme: a glimpse into an unknown and, to many of us, forbidden world.

It´s so great.....I was looking forward to see this final print and I´m overwhelmed....like Katka says..the border gives a window-effect and makes a bigger room....congratulations with this very beautiful print......and I´ve learned something about Islam via your blog...thank you....I like it so much...

Beautiful Annie! The border is the perfect touch to complete this project and I love how you left the center blank...respectful.

Hey next time you want to make sure you use a lighter touch, switch to a cheap student baren. You can apply tons of pressure and the resultant result will be light and probably spotty! ;^) I am so grateful for the ball bearing baren!

Annie, this is just nothing short of super fantastic. I've been anxiously awaiting the final and it is everything I thought it would be!

This is exquisite, Annie. It has the look of gilded 13th century manuscripts. Very elegant!

Thank you so much! I was "fortunate" to have a lot of free time on my hands in February, as I had almost no freelance illustration work! Being able to focus on this print without distraction was wonderful.

Pooh. I can't see it. I'll try later. Been waiting to see this!

Add my voice to the cheering crowd! You do good work, to put it mildly... I've enjoyed every step of the process.

I had to go back through and look at all the stages of this print as it progressed. Honestly I just stand in awe of all the precise carving and foresight it took to create this. So well done!

Fabulous! It reminds me of a prayer rug with the border and the way you've placed a block of pattern at the top. The texture is so rich, too! The blank centre makes me think of aerial photos of Mecca, with all the pilgrims wearing white, it looks like a white lake from afar.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Buddha's birthplace.

Thanks so much everyone for your kind comments. Sue, especially thanks to you for looking forward to the Buddha print! I'm in that funny lull between projects where I'm both excited to get started and also procrastinating.
