Overprints Defining the Buildings

DefiningBuildings

The photo above shows the print after a couple of slight reductions and overprints. I added roads and the sides of some buildings and printed a wash of burnt sienna, then cut away some more building detail and did a wash of pale green. I wanted the buildings to have some depth and substance, but to also be a little pale and ghost-like. Here's a closeup of some of the buildings:

I added a little church and cemetery on the Mexico side:

Now I have some topographical carving to do:

You're on a roll! This is shaping up very nicely. I love watching the metamorphosis of your work.

The little roofs blow me away.

I think I like this one better than any you've done so far. Like d.moll,l.ac., I love the little roofs and buildings. And the petroglyphs... they look just right, and their placement is great.

Thank you all. As you know, I do a kind of "warts-and-all" blogging, so although you like this piece now, things could always go downhill from here!!

One of the reasons I come to your blog regularly is to watch the process. I admire your fearless sharing of all the steps, the ups and downs, the things that work and the ones that don't. It's helpful and encouraging to the rest of us who also try to create what's in our hearts and minds. Thanks for doing it!

Hello Annie: I did not understand until now what you were doing , I just liked the print at first. The whole concept is so powerful and your quest so profound. Those pictures you showed are heartbreaking. I work with the topic of Migrants and I also enjoy learning at your blog. Best Regards, Guadalupe

Nice work. Hey, I noticed you have alot of woodcut artists on your links, but mine is not listed... maybe that's because you haven't seen my stuff. You can check it out here: http://garthoma.blogspot.com/
If you like it you could add me to your list, if you don't, well, I understand.

Thanks, garthoma. Currently my blog list is made up of artists that work polychrome, and I'm mainly interested in moku hanga (Japanese method woodblock). You might be interested in this web site:

You can add your own link there and it's full of printmakers of all sorts.
